How It Started

Once upon a time the paths of four disparate characters led to them discovering each other through their common love in Soul Music. They were young(ish), free and single...well mostly, and together they had fun. Lots of it.

Then came love...and jobs...and children...and responsibilities. All the wonderful baggage that Life throws at us all and the four found they couldn't indulge their passion in the way they once had.

But it was never abandoned. All four had encountered extreme highs and lows, joys and sorrow in equal measure and occasionally each would reminisce of the time their 'Young Hearts had Run Free' when 'Ain't No Stopping Us Now' was the mantra they lived by. Those were the days, never to be rekindled or so it seemed.

Then Fate took a hand. A chance meeting between two of them in the street led to the four being reunited in body and Soul one cold November night at The King Alfred in Hove......and The Soul Survivors were reborn!

The four found they still harboured the same passion and affection for the music that had meant so much to them all those years to go. They wondered if by chance others felt the same way. There was only one way to find out, they'd have to get the show on the road again.

The posters above with Otis Redding were commissioned and planted throughout Brighton and Hove. Coral Greyhound Stadium of all places was chosen to stage the event. And then we waited with much trepidation, hope and offering exceedingly fervent prayer.

That night as the floor filled to 'Road Runner', 'How Sweet It Is', 'Uptight' etc and all those other sweet soul tunes of yesteryear, we realised there were other Soul Survivors out there. Lots of them and we were going to rescue them!
